Starling 2024
Starling’s three cast-in-place walls rise in cobalt blue—a meditation on liberation. Across civilizations, from pre-Hispanic Mexico to African traditions, blue has carried the weight of spiritual, cultural, and political autonomy. Here, the pigment in the acrylic paint is diluted, which allows it to seep into the concrete rather than masking it. Conceived by the Duo siblings in collaboration with Juan de la Mora, the walls are an offering to their mother and a reflection of their journey as immigrants from Mexico. Structure, artwork, and civic marker at once, the three forms embody Duo’s Multicontextual Design practice—where migration, memory, craft, and public life converge, and where making norms and making form become one continuous gesture.
