The project began with a simple observation: anyone traveling to Ixcatlán would likely lose their way before arriving at the Alvarado Álvarez home. Drawing charcoal from the palenque—where mezcal is shaped through fire and patience—and combining it with spray paint from the city, the mural bridges two worlds: the ancestral and the contemporary, the handmade and the immediate. Depicting the maguey Papalome, the mural serves as both landmark and symbol—an emblem of the family’s presence and a marker of where their mezcal and cultural traditions are shared openly.
